Due to the death toll in China Wuhan Continent to the current coronavirus outbreak rising to 27 and also travel limits increasing through the whole country, Top Rank Boxing has decided to cancel and reschedule jr. welterweight title match of Ramirez vs Postol live boxing. First time the fight was planned to take place on February 1, 2020 at Mission Hills Haikou resort in Haikou, China where the card is airing on ESPN.
According to Arum, the fight will be relocated and rescheduled to the United States, with a new date and new location which is still not determined yet.
“We’d have to get a location to have the fight and clear a date with ESPN,” Arum told to ESPN Network. “All of those things have to be done. It’s a bummer but better safe than sorry if that’s what happens.”
Promotional president Bob Arum confirmed to ESPN network that the fight had been officially postponed and stating the only delay in the announcement had been confirming the cancellation with the resort as a courtesy.
Josh Ramirez Secure his WBC title with the WBO title when he defeated Maurice Hooker in last July, scoring a 6-round knockout. He had won the then vacant WBC title in March 2018 with a decision win over Amir Imam and made two back to back successful defenses before the Hooker clash. Postol had won his first 28 career fights with culminating in winning the WBC title with a KO of Lucas Matthysse in the year 2015. After this he would lose two of his next three fights against Josh Taylor and Terence Crawford, before picking up back-to-back wins to set up the fight with Ramirez.
