For the coronavirus pandemic the welterweight champions of WBO/WBC Ramirez vs Postol live has been postponed for their scheduled May 9, 2020 fight at California’s Save Mart Arena in Fresno. The event will be rescheduled later but the venue will be the same.
Those people who already purchased the ticket for the May 9 fight, they can still use that ticket for the rescheduled date and time as the venue will be same.
This fight is the second time for Ramirez’s title defense against his WBC mandatory 36 years old Postal who’s record is 31-2, 12KOs. Second time this fight is postponed, the first one was scheduled on February 2, 2020 in China due to coronavirus issue.
Unfortunately first time the fight was postponed and move from China to the U.S with a new date on May 9 wasn’t enough. The relocation of the fight is failed to make a difference due to the coronavirus spreading to the U.S too.
Arum Committed To Making Ramirez Vs Postol Happen
“I feel terribly for Jose and Viktor, who have entered two training camps, only to see the fight postponed both times,” said Bob Arum. “They are consummate professionals, and they will give the great Fresno fans a memorable fight whenever it occurs. We owe it to Jose and Viktor to make this fight happen as soon as it’s safe to do so.”
In 2012 US Olympian there was no other choice for Ramirex (25-0, 17 KOs) but to make this fight due to Postol make this mandatory. But when Ramirez achieves his height 5’11”, postol gets out of the way, he intends on facing Josh Taylor who is WBA/IBF light welterweight champion for the undisputed 140 LB championship.
Josh Taylor signed with Top Rank in recent time, which makes it an easy fight to get made whenever the fight hits the reset button.
This fight will be the Ramirez’s (27Y) fourth defense of his World Boxing Council title that he won two years ago by wining against Amir Imam by a 12 round unanimous decision in March 2018. After that impressive victory against for Ramirez by wining against Amir Imam, he’s reeled off three straight successful title defenses by wining against Antonio Orozco, Jose Zepeda and Maurice Hooker.
Ramirez said “I’m focused and will stay training and ready. Our nation’s safety must come first. We will all get through this.”
It’s good that Ramirez is understanding of the on going situation with his title defense against Postol getting postponed for the second time again, considering the situation there’s nothing Top Rank can do about the fight. They can’t relocate the fight out of the country to escape the coronavirus. The virus is pandemic and has reached almost every country in the world.
